Henry Sy, Jr., son and namesake of the famous SM mall magnate, enters the cement manufacturing industry with the launch of his own company Big Boss Cement Inc. (BBCI).
A personal project unaffiliated with their group of family businesses, Sy Jr.’s new cement corporation will be producing a kind of cement that is stronger and is the “most environment-friendly cement in the world today”, said BBCI president Gilbert S. Cruz at the launch Thursday.
According to them, BBCI will be manufacturing this variant at half the cost of traditional cement production with the use of a modern technology that “does away with the more than century-old system of mining raw materials such as limestone, clay, shale and sand, and heating them inside a kiln at around 1500 degrees Celsius”.
This patent-pending innovation uses readily available raw materials, and less heat in creating products of high quality.
Lahar serves as the BBCI’s main raw material for their cement.
“We are excited at the prospect of making a positive impact not only in the local construction industry but also in terms of decreasing air pollution and damage to the environment”, the BBCI president said in a statement.
“Science and technology are key drivers of our organization. We put a premium on research and development to be able to produce products that are superior while keeping in mind environmental sustainability”, he also voiced.
By March, BBCI’s first product, the Big Boss Cement Type 1P, priced will be available for purchase at P206 per bag.
The company targets to sell 18 million bags of cement this 2018, along with hopes to supply at least 3 percent of cement the country necessitates.
With a potential capacity of producing 1.5 million bags per month, BBCI’s factory is located in Porac, Pampanga. Other properties have also been acquired for expansion, Cruz mentioned.
