Business Tycoon, John Gokongwei Jr, is Management Association of the Philippines (MAP)’s Management Man of the Year, the organization announced on Tuesday.
According to a press statement by MAP, the award acknowledges Gokongwei’s “business acumen and management qualities” that directed his group “into remarkable growth”.
His potential to build new undertakings, as well as to reshape current ones “to better adapt to challenging times and an unpredictable future,” was also recognized.
Moreover, MAP commended the Gokongwei group’s sizable contribution to “national development, job creation and income generation” through their ventures in various industries such as food manufacturing, banking, and air transportation.
Honored, the business magnate expressed his gratitude to the association for the award, saying that they shall aim to continue on being of help to the country’s development, a role that has always been one of his aspirations.
The JG Summit Holdings founder is the 41st recipient of this prestigious recognition, joining other industry personalities such as Jose L. Cuisia Jr (2007), Teresita Sy-Coson (2016), and Jaime Zobel de Ayala (1987).
With a rigorous process of selection, MAP’s Management Man of the Year is an accolade given to esteemed leaders in business or the government who have excelled in management, and have significantly took part in the Philippines’ growth. Its first awardee, the late business icon Washington Z. SyCip, was conferred the title in 1967.
